International Volunteer HQ offers Medical Volunteer Campaigns in 7 unique destinations around the world, including Peru - Cusco, Peru - Lima, Guatemala, Costa Rica, India - Delhi, Ghana and Nepal.
Unlike IVHQ’s general Medical and Healthcare projects, our Medical Campaigns are exclusively available as group trips, meaning each campaign must be pre-organized ahead of applying.

Volunteering FAQs for Medical & Healthcare groups
IVHQ offers Group Medical Volunteer Campaigns in 7 destinations around the world, each with different tasks and prerequisites:
- Groups must have 8 or more members in Peru - Cusco, Guatemala, Costa Rica, India - Delhi, Nepal, and Ghana.
- Groups must have less than 15 members in Peru - Lima, and must at least be training in Medical or Nursing school.
During the week-long campaign, your group will work together with our local team to provide basic healthcare and medical attention to populations that may not otherwise have access to these services.
You’ll help educate patients, provide basic checkups and treatment to members of the community and support the distribution of medication. You’ll also visit and work with up to five communities throughout the week, volunteering for 4 hours per day.
IVHQ’s Medical Volunteering Campaigns are incredibly beneficial to local communities around the world. With the help of Medical Volunteers like you, we can help improve the quality of life and health standards for individuals around the world.
IVHQ’s general Medical and Healthcare projects take place within smaller community clinics, healthcare centers and assisted-living facilities, and can have only 2 to 4 volunteers assisting them at any one time. Clinics and centers are often limited to providing healthcare only to those who arrive at the clinic that day, and volunteers have a largely observational role.
When you join a Medical Campaign, on the other hand, your group will work together alongside local medical staff with the ability to engage in more hands-on medical work. You’ll actively travel to the patients’ communities rather than relying on the patients to come to the clinics, meaning greater interaction with those in need and more exposure to unique local communities.
IVHQ Medical Volunteer Campaigns are open to volunteers with relevant training or experience in healthcare, ranging from early stages of training (pre-med, pre-nursing, pre-dental, pre-health, etc) to those in Medical/Nursing school (any year of study). Fully qualified individuals are also welcome to participate, however volunteers will always be supervised by local staff regardless of their level of qualification and experience.
Volunteers are required to bring their own basic medical supplies, including a white coat, scrubs, disposable rubber (or latex) gloves, antibacterial soap or sanitizer, a stethoscope and a blood pressure cuff.
Volunteers are accompanied by a local medical specialist and/or a local doctor/nurse, all of whom are bilingual. While medical training is not typically provided on IVHQ programs, volunteers on our Medical Campaigns will usually receive an introduction and overview of how to take vitals. This is dependent on the experience and current level of training that group members have.
Medical Volunteer Campaigns require groups to have private transportation to ensure the group arrives together and on-time to each campaign location. This is at an additional cost per group member and is dependent on your group’s size and your location.
Our local team can also arrange additional learning and workshops for your group, such as a Medical Lecture, Hospital Tour and/or Reflective Workshop. These are additional items which we can add to your group’s program and fee.
Yes, for groups volunteering for more than one week, we can arrange your group to take part in one of our standard medical projects for the first week while you learn the basics of the healthcare system in your host country, followed by the Medical Volunteer Campaign the second week.
This provides your group with a great opportunity to experience both types of health service; learning about healthcare in the clinics and local community health in a group setting on the Campaigns. If you have specific questions about our Group Medical Campaigns, the requirements and how to create a group trip, feel free to get in touch with our team of Program Managers.
