Interested in volunteering with children in Lombok? International Volunteer HQ offers a wonderful opportunity to work in local kindergartens, teaching basic English in a fun and informal way. Through playful activities and interactive learning, you’ll help children develop essential language skills while getting an authentic taste of Lombok’s local lifestyle. This experience aims to plant the seeds of lifelong learning in the children, fostering their interest in English and opening their minds to new possibilities.

What to expect and how you'll make an impact

As a volunteer in Lombok, you’ll work with young children at a kindergarten in Senggigi, where they are just beginning their learning journey. This offers a unique opportunity for them to learn basic English phrases and greetings at an early stage, which will be essential for their future development. Teaching is relaxed and informal, as the children are more inclined to play and interact rather than engage in traditional lessons. Your presence will not only help them develop an interest in coming to school but also spark a lifelong curiosity for learning.

Volunteers assist local teachers and engage with the children between the ages of 4 and 6. This program runs for two hours each morning with two hours of lesson planning in the afternoon. The children will be thrilled to meet you, as interacting with one of the few foreigners they’ve encountered, creates a welcoming and rewarding experience for both volunteers and students.

Childcare volunteer work varies but usually you’ll be:

Assisting local teachers
Teaching, including helping to improve English
Playing with and caring for children
Setting up activities and games
Introducing your language and culture

Volunteer requirements

All volunteers joining for 2 or more weeks must obtain a C6B Visa. This visa does have additional costs to the program fee and can take up to 15 working days to process.
An exception to the above applies if a volunteer will be in Indonesia for less than 30 days and opts to participate in the Introduction Week, Adventure week, or the Yoga and Meditation Week, along with one, two or three weeks of volunteering. In this scenario, the volunteer can join with a tourist visa, which can be obtained upon arrival, for most nationalities.
To respect the local culture and customs in Lombok, volunteers should be aware that they cannot have anything obstructing their face while at their volunteer placement.
Volunteers under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to participate in this program.
Volunteers aged 16 or 17 on their program start date must provide IVHQ with parental consent to participate in the program and may be asked to provide additional documents to the local team.
All volunteers aged 13+ are required to provide a criminal background check to IVHQ before departure. If you are unable to obtain a criminal background check, you can provide two character reference letters instead.
All volunteers are required to have adequate volunteer travel insurance
