What recent volunteers said about their IVHQ experience
Having brought groups of teenagers for three consecutive years to the food outreach programme in Vietnam I can say with confidence that this project is life changing. The sense of pride, accomplishment and gratitude is evident within every student that takes part, they get immense satisfaction from helping others who are less fortunate. The work is hard and challenging but they all rise to the challenge and take personal and team ownership of providing meals for the vulnerable within the local community . The soup kitchen project is always the students favourite part of their time in Vietnam .
i gained a truely first-hand insight into the lasting and prolonged effects of agent orange from the Vietnam War. It was eye-opening as it really gave me a new perspective to it from, and created a connect between what i've been taught in school and the reality of the situation. it also allowed me to grow as a person by challenging my own ideas and beliefs, and how my culture has influenced my perceptions and beliefs.
It's was an opportunity to exchange cultural ideas with both teachers and students. I didn't realize the impact that I would have on teachers and vice versa. It was amazing how attached I become to so many students and teachers as if it were my school. I will miss everyone there and wish them all success. Thanks to everyone who supports this program, it's an important one!
