This unique tour begins with a 6-hour overnight bus ride to the city of Puno located in the high plains of the Andes. In Puno, participants are transferred to a hostel where they have 1-2 hours to relax in the lobby area and eat breakfast before heading to the Lake. At 7:00AM participants are transferred from the hostel to the motorboat excursion on the pristine waters of Lake Titicaca. The Lake tour begins with a visit to the The Uros Islands - a small community that has lived on these man made floating islands for decades. The tour continues on to Taquile Island where there is a short 30 minute walk to town to explore the local sites and have lunch. The boat then returns to Puno where participants can explore the city and have dinner before the bus ride back to Cusco, which is at 10:00PM. Want to visit all of the must-see sites that Peru has to offer? On the Mini Adventure, you'll see all of Peru's major hot spots in just 1-week. This can can be added at the beginning or end of your volunteer program depending on your itinerary. You will be accompanied by a certified, bilingual tour guide for each trip, using Cusco as your home base between tours. 

The 6-day program compliments your volunteer experience, without the stress of trip planning. It will begin on Sunday and finish the following Saturday morning, and accommodation is included from the Saturday before your adventure begins. Breakfast and dinner is also included. It's also important to note, if you complete this the week prior to your start date an extra night of accommodation will be required for the Saturday between this activity and your program starting, at an additional cost of US$32.

The Mini Adventure includes:

Day 1 (Sunday): SACRED VALLEY
You visit the beautiful ‘Valle Sagrado’ and the town of Pisac with its famous artisanal market and Inca ruins. You continue on to Urubamba for a buffet lunch and then hike up and down the Inca fortress of Ollantaytambo. Hotel accommodations in Machu Picchu town included.

Day 2 (Monday): MACHU PICCHU
You take an early morning train from Ollantaytambo to the village of Aguas Calientes at the foot of Machu Picchu. Enjoy the evening in Aguas Calientes with nice shops, good restaurants, and natural hot springs. Very early the next morning you head up to Machu Picchu for a guided tour of the Lost City of the Incas. Host family accommodations in Cusco included.

Day 3 (Tuesday): CITY TOUR
See the highlights of Cusco—“the navel of the world” and the center of the ancient Inca Empire. You visit Q’oricancha, the Inca Temple of the Sun, and tour Cusco’s 15th century Cathedral as well as other amazing ruins around the historic city. They will be picked up that night and be in an overnight sleeper bus to Puno. (About 6-hours)

Day 4 (Wednesday): LAKE TITICACA
You have a couple of hours to freshen up and then head out on the lake to visit the floating, man-made, Uros Islands. Next, you visit Amantani Island and two Inca temples. Finally, you visit Taquile Island, and head back to Puno. They will take the overnight sleeper bus back to Cusco. (About 6-hours)

Day 5 (Thursday): FREE DAY
They will be picked up from the bus station and taken to their host families. They have a free day to rest, explore the city of Cusco or book a half day excursion. Host family accommodations in Cusco included.

Day 6 (Friday): MORAY SALT MINES
You visit the Moray archaeological site, which is an ancient experimental station for growing different crops. Next, you visit the Maras salt mines, where salt has been mined for hundreds of years through a unique method of evaporation. Host family accommodations in Cusco included.

Trek to the top of Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain - part of Ausangate Mountain in the Peruvian Andes - for stunning arial views of the region. Known by many names including “Vinicunca,” “Winikunka,” “Painted Mountain,” and “Mountain of Seven Colors” due to its multi-colored mineral deposits, participants may elect a horse-riding option, instead of hiking for an additional fee. 

You'll be picked up at 4:30 AM and will begin your hike shortly thereafter. After approximately 4 hours of hiking you'll reach the Rainbow Mountains (5020 m/16,466 ft.). You'll spend 30 minutes at the top of the mountain before beginning the descent down to your starting point, which will take between 3 - 4 hours. You can expect to return to Cusco around 5:00 PM.

This is a very challenging hike that requires a moderate to high level of physical fitness.

Your day will begin with an early pickup at 4:30 AM and you will travel to the trailhead, which is approximately 3 hours outside of Cusco.

The shortened 45-minute hike up the Palcoyo Rainbow Mountain begins alongside a lovely mountain stream and continues through rural villages with herds of alpacas and llamas close by and beautiful views of Ausangate Mountain - the highest peak in the Cusco region. Participants spend approximately 30 minutes exploring at the end of the hike. 

From there, you will trek back to the starting point where a delicious, traditional lunch is served before returning to Cusco around 5:00 PM. 

This trek requires a moderate level of physical fitness. If you'd prefer to complete this trek via horseback, this can be arranged on-site for approximately US$25.

Visit Tambopata National Reserve and Sandoval Lake deep in the Amazon Jungle on a 3 day, 4 night excursion.

Night 1 (Friday) - Overnight bus
You'll board an overnight bus from Cusco to Puerto Maldonado, which has reclining/lay-flat seats to allow for a comfortable 10 hour journey.

Day 1 (Saturday) - Arrival and Exploration:
After taking an overnight bus from Cusco, you'll wake up in Puerto Maldonaldo and transfer to the port of Madre de Dios River, where you'll then enjoy a 45 minute to one-hour cruise that will lead you to your home-base for the next couple of days (Monte Amazon Lodge). Upon arrival there will be a welcome meeting, and then you will have a chance to settle into your room.

After a rest, you will have an introduction and a walk for approx. 45 min. in the rainforest, guided by skilled and experienced local guide who will take you through the trails. You'll encounter trees that are estimated to be over five hundred years old, animals like toucans, orioles, trogons, macaws, monkeys, snakes, butterflies, etc. You will have the opportunity to experience the magic of our forest that is adjacent to the Tambopata National Reserve (278,000 hectares protected).

After lunch, you'll visit monkey island, and will walk among close to 20 different species of monkey, including the family of capuchin monkeys that live on this island. Following this activity, you will return to the lodge to have a short rest.

Next up you'll head out on the Madre de Dios River to search for white alligators and Capybara, which is the largest rodent in the world weighing up to 60 kilos.

Following this thrilling excursion you'll return to the lodge for dinner and a well deserved rest.

Day 2 (Sunday) - Sandoval Lake:
After breakfast, you will walk 3 km amidst the dense tropical jungle and head towards Sandoval Lake, which is well known as a habitat of Piranhas (one of the largest in the Tambopata National Reserve). You will sail in a paddle canoe, surrounded by many species of birds, monkeys, otters, aligators and sloths.

You'll return to the lodge to enjoy a traditional lunch and are welcome to use the afternoon to relax or explore independently.

Once the sun goes down and dinner is complete, you can enjoy a walk amidst the vibrant jungle that comes to life at night, where you'll be able to spot spiders, frogs, reptiles and various insects.

Day 3 (Monday) - Canopy walk & Zip Line:
Your day starts bright and early at 5:30 AM with a short walk through the jungle canopy (about 40 meters high) where a panoramic view of the Madre de Dios River awaits. From here you'll observe a variety of species of birds, including toucans, trogons, macaws, tanagers, orioles, etc. If time permits, you're free to enjoy a zipline over the vast canopy before returning to the lodge for lunch.

Following lunch, you'll enjoy some time paddling the Madre de Dios River by kayak, before returning to the lodge to prepare for departure.

Monday Night
You'll return to Puerto Maldonado via a quick boat ride where you'll then have a couple hours to grab dinner and explore the village. From here you'll board an overnight sleeper bus around 8:00 PM, returning to Cusco by approximately 7:30 AM the following day.

Machu Picchu is a must-see for those volunteering in Peru. IVHQ's standard 2-day & 1-night tour is an affordable and safe way to explore this unique Wonder of the World.

Transportation is on a backpacker train which leaves from either the Poroy station outside of Cusco or from the Ollantaytambo station in the Sacred Valley depending on availability. The train ride from Poroy is approximately 3 hours, while the train ride from Ollantaytambo is 75 minutes. Participants spend the night in the pueblo of Aguas Calientes at the foot of Machu Picchu Mountain. Early on Day 2, participants take the bus up to Machu Picchu for a 2.5-hour guided tour of the Inca citadel. After the tour, there is free time to explore Machu Picchu and to make the optional climbs up Waynapicchu or Machu Picchu Mountain. Note, these extra hikes must be pre-booked. Later in the afternoon, participants take the train from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo or Poroy, where they are met and transferred back to Cusco by a large van or bus. 

Please note, this is not a private tour. On this trip you will be accommodated in a shared dorm-style hostel and will experience this tour with a group of volunteers and tourists.

If you’re seeking a more private tour option, please check out the Machu Picchu Overnight Tour - Upgrade (2 days, 1 night) option where you can experience the tour as part of a smaller group, in a standard private hotel room, with private transportation to and from the train station, and an upgraded train car.

*The local team also required a copy of your passport, as per Peruvian tourism requirements. You can send this to the local team directly once you have registered for the program.

Please note, this tour is non-refundable and not able to be credited for future use, in the event you need to cancel after booking. Seize the opportunity to earn your PADI Open Water Diver certification either prior to joining or upon completing the IVHQ Peru - Cusco Program.

The PADI certification program takes place over 5 days and 4 nights (Monday to Friday). This program immerses you in the vibrant coastal settings of Lima and Pucusana, offering a blend of theoretical learning and hands-on diving experiences under the guidance of a certified instructor.   

You can expect to spend 4 - 5 hours each day on the water and/or boat alongside your instructor. With all diving equipment provided, this journey promises an unforgettable aquatic adventure.

A typical schedule is as follows:

Day 1: Travel to Lima
Travel Lima is at your own expense - the team will provide a pickup and transfer to the accommodation upon arrival.  

Day 2: Theory and Abilities
Begin your introduction to Scuba with the first few chapters of your manual and multimedia. Learn about how pressure affects the body, choosing the right gear, dive planning, and safety.

Day 3: Pool Session
Once the materials are covered, you have your first confined session in a swimming pool for 3 - 4 hours, building comfort with your equipment and practicing hand signals and safety exercises.

Day 4: Ocean Dives
This first ocean session gets you comfortable with the gear in an open water environment. Journey to the depths twice this day, depending on the tides.

Day 5: Final Dives and Exam
Put your new skills into practice! Today you complete your final two required dives alongside your instructor. You then write your final exam back in the classroom, and once you have passed you are officially a Certified PADI Open Water Diver!

If you would like to spend Friday night in Lima before departing (which we recommend if you've been diving that day), the local team can help you to arrange an extra night of accommodation as Friday night is not included in this tour fee.

*Please note, this activity is based in Lima so you must arrange your own flights from Cusco to Lima. You will also need to provide your own bathing suit and towel for this activity.

This unique tour begins with a 6-hour overnight bus ride to the city of Puno located in the high plains of the Andes. In Puno, participants are transferred to a hostel where they have 1-2 hours to relax in the lobby area and eat breakfast before heading to the Lake. At 7:00AM participants are transferred from the hostel to the motorboat excursion on the pristine waters of Lake Titicaca. The Lake tour begins with a visit to the The Uros Islands - a small community that has lived on these man made floating islands for decades. The tour continues on to Taquile Island where there is a short 30 minute walk to town to explore the local sites and have lunch. The boat then returns to Puno where participants can explore the city and have dinner before the bus ride back to Cusco, which is at 10:00PM. The tour ends in Cusco the following morning at 5:00AM and participants are transferred back to accommodations. Bilingual guide and all entrance tickets included. 1 Day + 2 Overnight Sleeper Buses. Want to visit all of the must-see sites that Peru has to offer? On the Mini Adventure, you'll see all of Peru's major hot spots in just 1-week. This can can be added at the beginning or end of your volunteer program depending on your itinerary. You will be accompanied by a certified, bilingual tour guide for each trip, using Cusco as your home base between tours. 

The 6-day program compliments your volunteer experience, without the stress of trip planning. It will begin on Sunday and finish the following Saturday morning, and accommodation is included from the Saturday before your adventure begins. Breakfast and dinner is also included. It's also important to note, if you complete this the week prior to your start date an extra night of accommodation will be required for the Saturday between this activity and your program starting, at an additional cost of US$32.

The Mini Adventure includes:

Day 1 (Sunday): SACRED VALLEY
You visit the beautiful ‘Valle Sagrado’ and the town of Pisac with its famous artisanal market and Inca ruins. You continue on to Urubamba for a buffet lunch and then hike up and down the Inca fortress of Ollantaytambo. Hotel accommodations in Machu Picchu town included.

Day 2 (Monday): MACHU PICCHU
You take an early morning train from Ollantaytambo to the village of Aguas Calientes at the foot of Machu Picchu. Enjoy the evening in Aguas Calientes with nice shops, good restaurants, and natural hot springs. Very early the next morning you head up to Machu Picchu for a guided tour of the Lost City of the Incas. Host family accommodations in Cusco included.

Day 3 (Tuesday): CITY TOUR
See the highlights of Cusco—“the navel of the world” and the center of the ancient Inca Empire. You visit Q’oricancha, the Inca Temple of the Sun, and tour Cusco’s 15th century Cathedral as well as other amazing ruins around the historic city. They will be picked up that night and be in an overnight sleeper bus to Puno. (About 6-hours)

Day 4 (Wednesday): LAKE TITICACA
You have a couple of hours to freshen up and then head out on the lake to visit the floating, man-made, Uros Islands. Next, you visit Amantani Island and two Inca temples. Finally, you visit Taquile Island, and head back to Puno. They will take the overnight sleeper bus back to Cusco. (About 6-hours)

Day 5 (Thursday): FREE DAY
They will be picked up from the bus station and taken to their host families. They have a free day to rest, explore the city of Cusco or book a half day excursion. Host family accommodations in Cusco included.

Day 6 (Friday): MORAY SALT MINES
You visit the Moray archaeological site, which is an ancient experimental station for growing different crops. Next, you visit the Maras salt mines, where salt has been mined for hundreds of years through a unique method of evaporation. Host family accommodations in Cusco included.

Trek to the top of Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain - part of Ausangate Mountain in the Peruvian Andes - for stunning arial views of the region. Known by many names including “Vinicunca,” “Winikunka,” “Painted Mountain,” and “Mountain of Seven Colors” due to its multi-colored mineral deposits, participants may elect a horse-riding option, instead of hiking for an additional fee. 

You'll be picked up at 4:30 AM and will begin your hike shortly thereafter. After approximately 4 hours of hiking you'll reach the Rainbow Mountains (5020 m/16,466 ft.). You'll spend 30 minutes at the top of the mountain before beginning the descent down to your starting point, which will take between 3 - 4 hours. You can expect to return to Cusco around 5:00 PM.

This is a very challenging hike that requires a moderate to high level of physical fitness.

Your day will begin with an early pickup at 4:30 AM and you will travel to the trailhead, which is approximately 3 hours outside of Cusco.

The shortened 45-minute hike up the Palcoyo Rainbow Mountain begins alongside a lovely mountain stream and continues through rural villages with herds of alpacas and llamas close by and beautiful views of Ausangate Mountain - the highest peak in the Cusco region. Participants spend approximately 30 minutes exploring at the end of the hike. 

From there, you will trek back to the starting point where a delicious, traditional lunch is served before returning to Cusco around 5:00 PM. 

This trek requires a moderate level of physical fitness. If you'd prefer to complete this trek via horseback, this can be arranged on-site for approximately US$25.

Visit Tambopata National Reserve and Sandoval Lake deep in the Amazon Jungle on a 3 day, 4 night excursion.

Night 1 (Friday) - Overnight bus
You'll board an overnight bus from Cusco to Puerto Maldonado, which has reclining/lay-flat seats to allow for a comfortable 10 hour journey.

Day 1 (Saturday) - Arrival and Exploration:
After taking an overnight bus from Cusco, you'll wake up in Puerto Maldonaldo and transfer to the port of Madre de Dios River, where you'll then enjoy a 45 minute to one-hour cruise that will lead you to your home-base for the next couple of days (Monte Amazon Lodge). Upon arrival there will be a welcome meeting, and then you will have a chance to settle into your room.

After a rest, you will have an introduction and a walk for approx. 45 min. in the rainforest, guided by skilled and experienced local guide who will take you through the trails. You'll encounter trees that are estimated to be over five hundred years old, animals like toucans, orioles, trogons, macaws, monkeys, snakes, butterflies, etc. You will have the opportunity to experience the magic of our forest that is adjacent to the Tambopata National Reserve (278,000 hectares protected).

After lunch, you'll visit monkey island, and will walk among close to 20 different species of monkey, including the family of capuchin monkeys that live on this island. Following this activity, you will return to the lodge to have a short rest.

Next up you'll head out on the Madre de Dios River to search for white alligators and Capybara, which is the largest rodent in the world weighing up to 60 kilos.

Following this thrilling excursion you'll return to the lodge for dinner and a well deserved rest.

Day 2 (Sunday) - Sandoval Lake:
After breakfast, you will walk 3 km amidst the dense tropical jungle and head towards Sandoval Lake, which is well known as a habitat of Piranhas (one of the largest in the Tambopata National Reserve). You will sail in a paddle canoe, surrounded by many species of birds, monkeys, otters, aligators and sloths.

You'll return to the lodge to enjoy a traditional lunch and are welcome to use the afternoon to relax or explore independently.

Once the sun goes down and dinner is complete, you can enjoy a walk amidst the vibrant jungle that comes to life at night, where you'll be able to spot spiders, frogs, reptiles and various insects.

Day 3 (Monday) - Canopy walk & Zip Line:
Your day starts bright and early at 5:30 AM with a short walk through the jungle canopy (about 40 meters high) where a panoramic view of the Madre de Dios River awaits. From here you'll observe a variety of species of birds, including toucans, trogons, macaws, tanagers, orioles, etc. If time permits, you're free to enjoy a zipline over the vast canopy before returning to the lodge for lunch.

Following lunch, you'll enjoy some time paddling the Madre de Dios River by kayak, before returning to the lodge to prepare for departure.

Monday Night
You'll return to Puerto Maldonado via a quick boat ride where you'll then have a couple hours to grab dinner and explore the village. From here you'll board an overnight sleeper bus around 8:00 PM, returning to Cusco by approximately 7:30 AM the following day.

Machu Picchu is a must-see for those volunteering in Peru. IVHQ's standard 2-day & 1-night tour is an affordable and safe way to explore this unique Wonder of the World.

Transportation is on a backpacker train which leaves from either the Poroy station outside of Cusco or from the Ollantaytambo station in the Sacred Valley depending on availability. The train ride from Poroy is approximately 3 hours, while the train ride from Ollantaytambo is 75 minutes. Participants spend the night in the pueblo of Aguas Calientes at the foot of Machu Picchu Mountain. Early on Day 2, participants take the bus up to Machu Picchu for a 2.5-hour guided tour of the Inca citadel. After the tour, there is free time to explore Machu Picchu and to make the optional climbs up Waynapicchu or Machu Picchu Mountain. Note, these extra hikes must be pre-booked. Later in the afternoon, participants take the train from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo or Poroy, where they are met and transferred back to Cusco by a large van or bus. 

Please note, this is not a private tour. On this trip you will be accommodated in a shared dorm-style hostel and will experience this tour with a group of volunteers and tourists.

If you’re seeking a more private tour option, please check out the Machu Picchu Overnight Tour - Upgrade (2 days, 1 night) option where you can experience the tour as part of a smaller group, in a standard private hotel room, with private transportation to and from the train station, and an upgraded train car.

*The local team also required a copy of your passport, as per Peruvian tourism requirements. You can send this to the local team directly once you have registered for the program.

Please note, this tour is non-refundable and not able to be credited for future use, in the event you need to cancel after booking. If you need to make a change to the tour date you have booked once payment is completed (provided there is availability on the revised date), there will be an administration fee associated with the change, as per the policy of the tour company.

Seize the opportunity to earn your PADI Open Water Diver certification either prior to joining or upon completing the IVHQ Peru - Cusco Program.

The PADI certification program takes place over 5 days and 4 nights (Monday to Friday). This program immerses you in the vibrant coastal settings of Lima and Pucusana, offering a blend of theoretical learning and hands-on diving experiences under the guidance of a certified instructor.   

You can expect to spend 4 - 5 hours each day on the water and/or boat alongside your instructor. With all diving equipment provided, this journey promises an unforgettable aquatic adventure.

A typical schedule is as follows:

Day 1: Travel to Lima
Travel Lima is at your own expense - the team will provide a pickup and transfer to the accommodation upon arrival.  

Day 2: Theory and Abilities
Begin your introduction to Scuba with the first few chapters of your manual and multimedia. Learn about how pressure affects the body, choosing the right gear, dive planning, and safety.

Day 3: Pool Session
Once the materials are covered, you have your first confined session in a swimming pool for 3 - 4 hours, building comfort with your equipment and practicing hand signals and safety exercises.

Day 4: Ocean Dives
This first ocean session gets you comfortable with the gear in an open water environment. Journey to the depths twice this day, depending on the tides.

Day 5: Final Dives and Exam
Put your new skills into practice! Today you complete your final two required dives alongside your instructor. You then write your final exam back in the classroom, and once you have passed you are officially a Certified PADI Open Water Diver!

If you would like to spend Friday night in Lima before departing (which we recommend if you've been diving that day), the local team can help you to arrange an extra night of accommodation as Friday night is not included in this tour fee.

*Please note, this activity is based in Lima so you must arrange your own flights from Cusco to Lima. You will also need to provide your own bathing suit and towel for this activity.

You’ll be picked up from your volunteer accommodation in Cusco at your chosen time, and driven directly to the airport with plenty of time for your flight. Transfers to other destinations can also be arranged if you are heading somewhere else.
