Day 1:
Setting off early morning after breakfast at the volunteer house or homestay you will drive from Arusha to Tarangire National Park. You will enjoy a full day game drive in the park famous for its elephant population and stop at Matete picnic site for lunch. Overnight camping will be at Jambo campsite.

Day 2:
The next morning, you will enjoy breakfast at the campsite before driving approximately 3 hours to reach the incredible Ngorongoro Crater. Enjoy a half day game drive before driving back to your accommodation in Arusha in the late afternoon.

Day 1:
You will leave the volunteer or homestay house early in the morning to start the approximately 6 hour drive to the Serengeti National Park . On the way, you will stop at the beautiful Ngorongoro view point to take photos of the incredible caldera. After enjoying a lunchbox at this point, you will continue to complete the drive to Nguchiro campsite. On the way you can expect to see monkeys, giraffe and possibly elephants.

Day 2:
Waking up in the Serengeti you will set off early to enjoy a full day game drive on the search for the big five and enjoying the full experience of the big cats behaviour, overnight again at Nguchiro camp.

Day 3:
Waking early again to drive from the Serengeti to Ngorongoro. Overnight at Simba campsite.

Day 4:
Last day for for a game drive in the Ngorongoro crater, with the best chance of seeing the big five. In the afternoon you will drive back to Arusha to the volunteer house or homestay accommodation.

Timing: this tour leaves around 6 am and returns between 4-6 pm.

The Chemka Hot Springs are an oasis in the hinterland of the Kilimanjaro region, located about 120 km (a 2-3 hour drive) from Arusha City. These idyllic underground springs feature crystal-clear, turquoise waters, providing a perfect retreat after a strenuous Kilimanjaro climb or an adventurous wilderness safari. They are also an ideal destination for day-trippers of all ages and activity levels. Whether you prefer tranquillity or activity, Chemka Hot Springs invite you to linger, swim, and explore.

The pond is very deep, reaching depths of up to 10 meters in some areas, yet the water is so clear you can easily see the bottom. The water is warm, not hot. On the shore, under lush trees, you can enjoy your snacks or soak up the sun.

While you may have your own reason for wanting to climb Kilimanjaro, one thing is common among all those who visit – the desire to stand on the highest peak of Africa. Located 200 miles (325 km) from the equator, the mountain defies logic with its crown of ice. Climbing Kilimanjaro does not require specialist technical skills or equipment, just a good level of fitness and determination.

Setting off from the volunteer house or homestay accommodation after an approximate one hour drive you will arrive at the Tarangire National Park. The Tarangire National Park has the highest density of elephants in North Tanzania and you can view these animals all year round in which the herds often can reach an impressive number of 300 animals.

The Tarangire River has water all year round and during the dry season, between July and October, many animals from the surrounding areas come to the river for drinking. If you visit the park during the dry season, you will witness an unforgettable natural wonder as you can observe wonderful creatures such as lions, giraffes, buffaloes, wildebeests and zebras as well as various types of antelopes and gazelles and with a little luck, you can also spot a python!

Around lunchtime, you will stop at a suitable picnic place before the afternoon is dedicated to more wildlife watching. Before sunset, you will be driven back to your accommodation.

Climb Mount Meru summit on a 3 day hike, a dormant stratovolcano located in Arusha National Park.

Day 1:
Setting off after meeting the team in the morning, you will start the drive to the Momella gate. From here to Miriakuamba hut will be the first hike which will take approximately 5-7 hours. After the guides have finished the paperwork and packing of the bags, you will hike through the forest vegetation. You should anticipate to see some giraffes, zebra, antelopes and buffaloes. While waiting of dinner on day one, you will enjoy the beautiful sunset before the first night in the tent living the mountain life.

Day 2:
Carrying on ascending the mount, the elevation will be from 3,500m at Mitiakamba Hut to 3,500m at Saddle hut. This will be a 3-5 hour hike and this is when the hiking begins to steepen as you get higher on the mountain. You will reach the ‘desert zone’ at lunch time and have an opportunity to climb ‘little Meru’. After an early dinner, you will sleep ready for your attempt at summit starting at midnight. Around midnight you will start the hike from Saddle Hut to the Mt Meru peak at 4,566m this will take between 10-12 hours of hiking. As you summit when the sun is rising you will have the chance to see Kilimanjaro. After reaching the summit you will descend to Saddle Hut for brunch and then descend again to Mirikamba Hut for dinner and overnight.

Day 3:
On the final day, you will descend to Momella gate with 2-3 hours of hiking with another chance to see the animals and then transported back to Arusha.

Typically Mount Meru Climb is challenging and takes four days, but it can be done in 3 days to complete a trek to the summit.

Day 1:
Early morning, you will leave the volunteer house or homestay to start the approximately 2 hours drive to reach the Tarangire Park gate. You will enjoy a game drive in the park well-known for its huge number of elephants, before driving to Jambo campsite to overnight.

Day 2:
After breakfast, you will drive to Lake Manyara (approx. 1.5 hour) famous for its tree-climbing lions and flamingos. Return to overnight again at Jambo campsite.

Day 3:
On your final day, waking up early to drive to the Ngorongoro crater (approx 1 hour), and with the best chance of seeing the big five after an adventurous drive into the caldera for a morning of game drive you will drive back to Arusha to the volunteer accommodation.

You’ll be picked up from your volunteer accommodation in Tanzania at your chosen time, and driven directly to the airport with plenty of time for your flight. Please keep in mind that this service is only offered for those staying at the volunteer accommodation. 

Important notes:

Day 1:
You will leave the volunteer or homestay house early in the morning to start the approximately 6 hour drive to the Serengeti National Park . On the way, you will stop at the beautiful Ngorongoro view point to take photos of the incredible caldera. After enjoying a lunchbox at this point, you will continue to complete the drive to Nguchiro campsite. On the way you can expect to see monkeys, giraffe and possibly elephants.

Day 2:
Waking up in the Serengeti you will set off early to enjoy a full day game drive on the search for the big five and enjoying the full experience of the big cats behaviour, overnight again at Nguchiro camp.

Day 3:
Waking early again to drive from the Serengeti to Ngorongoro. Overnight at Simba campsite.

Day 4:
Last day for for a game drive in the Ngorongoro crater, with the best chance of seeing the big five. In the afternoon you will drive back to Arusha to the volunteer house or homestay accommodation.

Setting off from the volunteer house or homestay accommodation after an approximate one hour drive you will arrive at the Tarangire National Park. The Tarangire National Park has the highest density of elephants in North Tanzania and you can view these animals all year round in which the herds often can reach an impressive number of 300 animals.

The Tarangire River has water all year round and during the dry season, between July and October, many animals from the surrounding areas come to the river for drinking. If you visit the park during the dry season, you will witness an unforgettable natural wonder as you can observe wonderful creatures such as lions, giraffes, buffaloes, wildebeests and zebras as well as various types of antelopes and gazelles and with a little luck, you can also spot a python!

Around lunchtime, you will stop at a suitable picnic place before the afternoon is dedicated to more wildlife watching. Before sunset, you will be driven back to your accommodation.

Magoroto Forest is one of Tanzania's most unique rain forests, filled with abundant bird wildlife and rare plants. As well as taking in the beautiful scenery and chilled environment you can enjoy various activities on and around the lake. Staying in camps at the edge of the lake, swimming and canoeing as well as hiking and bike ride options to view glorious sunsets and make long lasting memories.

Timing: this tour leaves around 5:30 am and returns between 5-7 pm.

Volunteers on the Maasai Immersion project: 

The Maasai Immersion project is located about 2 hours away from Arusha. Due to the remoteness of the project, volunteers who wish to go back to Arusha and take part on tours over the weekends, will need to arrange transportation with the local team directly at an extra cost of US$70 per vehicle, for up to 4 passengers. Please note that this doesn't apply to safaris, as the local team can pick up volunteers from the Maasai village on the way out to the wildlife parks and reserves.

Climb Mount Meru summit on a 3 day hike, a dormant stratovolcano located in Arusha National Park.

Day 1:
Setting off after meeting the team in the morning, you will start the drive to the Momella gate. From here to Miriakuamba hut will be the first hike which will take approximately 5-7 hours. After the guides have finished the paperwork and packing of the bags, you will hike through the forest vegetation. You should anticipate to see some giraffes, zebra, antelopes and buffaloes. While waiting of dinner on day one, you will enjoy the beautiful sunset before the first night in the tent living the mountain life.

Day 2:
Carrying on ascending the mount, the elevation will be from 3,500m at Mitiakamba Hut to 3,500m at Saddle hut. This will be a 3-5 hour hike and this is when the hiking begins to steepen as you get higher on the mountain. You will reach the ‘desert zone’ at lunch time and have an opportunity to climb ‘little Meru’. After an early dinner, you will sleep ready for your attempt at summit starting at midnight. Around midnight you will start the hike from Saddle Hut to the Mt Meru peak at 4,566m this will take between 10-12 hours of hiking. As you summit when the sun is rising you will have the chance to see Kilimanjaro. After reaching the summit you will descend to Saddle Hut for brunch and then descend again to Mirikamba Hut for dinner and overnight.

Day 3:
On the final day, you will descend to Momella gate with 2-3 hours of hiking with another chance to see the animals and then transported back to Arusha.

Typically Mount Meru Climb is challenging and takes four days, but it can be done in 3 days to complete a trek to the summit.

Timing: this tour leaves around 8 am and returns between 5-6 pm.

Day 1:
Early morning, you will leave the volunteer house or homestay to start the approximately 2 hours drive to reach the Tarangire Park gate. You will enjoy a game drive in the park well-known for its huge number of elephants, before driving to Jambo campsite to overnight.

Day 2:
After breakfast, you will drive to Lake Manyara (approx. 1.5 hour) famous for its tree-climbing lions and flamingos. Return to overnight again at Jambo campsite.

Day 3:
On your final day, waking up early to drive to the Ngorongoro crater (approx 1 hour), and with the best chance of seeing the big five after an adventurous drive into the caldera for a morning of game drive you will drive back to Arusha to the volunteer accommodation.

Timing: this tour leaves around 8 am and returns between 4-5 pm.

Want your airport drop off organized for you at the end of your IVHQ Tanzania trip? We can book an airport transfer for you from your volunteer accommodation back to the airport at an affordable price. 

Without knowing what the right price is to pay in Tanzania for an airport transfer, you can easily get overcharged, or spend a long time trying to find a decent price. IVHQ’s local team knows the most reliable airport transfer companies and can get them booked for you at an affordable local rate. 

You’ll be picked up from your volunteer accommodation in Tanzania at your chosen time, and driven directly to the airport with plenty of time for your flight. Please keep in mind that this service is only offered for those staying at the volunteer accommodation. 

Important notes:

- Families and friends of up to 4 people (including children) travelling together as a group and catching the same flight will need to budget for only one airport drop-off. Please keep in mind that there's limited room for luggage. 

- If you are a solo traveller, please keep in mind that if you book your airport drop-off beforehand via your profile and end up sharing the ride with other volunteers travelling to the airport at the same time, we are unable to offer refunds.
