Project details
Are you ready to help improve Health Education outcomes in Bali - Lovina? International Volunteer HQ’s Health Education project enables volunteers to instruct basic health skills in schools or, if qualified, to lead health campaigns in the community. Volunteers will acquire experience in Health Education and teaching, or in the medical field related to their campaign. Help the local community learn to be more prepared to manage their own well-being, enhancing their quality of life with better access to essential medical care.
What to expect and how you'll make an impact
Teaching health practices from an early age is crucial for the lifelong wellbeing of children, especially those in underserved communities who may lack access to essential health information. Volunteers teaching these important skills can make a meaningful difference to children.
As a Health Education volunteer, you’ll play an active role in the promotion of better health and wellbeing among young people. You’ll be based in schools in Lovina and teach basic hygiene and health skills. You’ll need to plan your lessons and get creative to keep the students engaged, remembering they will have limited English. Topics can include:
- Brushing teeth and oral health
- Handwashing techniques
- Personal hygiene practices
- Health and Nutrition
There are also opportunities for qualified medical doctors to run health campaigns for the local community. You’ll need to provide transcripts of your qualifications in advance, and should come prepared with an idea of what you want to focus on during your program. If it requires additional resources, you may also need to provide these yourself.

What recent volunteers said about their IVHQ experience
Volunteering on the Teaching program in Lovina, Bali, has been an incredible lifetime experience. Of all the places I have travelled I have never felt so welcomed to their culture. Being a female travelling alone to volunteer, I felt so safe and the team were amazing at looking after me. The local community is also welcoming too where everyone wants to take the time to talk to you. Experiencing Kindergarten and School was so valuable, especially being a teacher from the UK. It was interesting to compare the differences between education and share some of my knowledge with the children and staff.
This is a perfect location to explore too away from the tourists and gives you a taste of the real Balinese culture. I can't wait to return! From the moment I joined IVHQ, the online support was excellent with an online training portal and videos to put you at ease. I am already planning my next volunteer adventure!
I feel as though I gained a lot of knowledge about the culture and the differences in Bali compared to Canada. I have gained so much knowledge about myself as well as learning much more about how the locals live their every day life and I felt very comfortable, happy, and safe the entire time I was there.
when I first met the children, I knew this was the right choice for me. I was grateful to have had an amazing team in Bali. I felt so comfortable to bring any of my needs to their attention as well as just eating lunch with them, going for walks and conversing with them. this entire experience has been so life-changing and I am forever grateful for all of the people I have met and memories I have made, I hope to go back some point in my life. I am already looking forward to next year‘s adventure, with IVHQ.
I never thought after just completing my grade 12 year that I could be so humbled at such a young age. I think it is so important, if given this opportunity, I think every young person should experience something like this at least once in their life. again, I would like to thank everyone who played a role in in making this experience possible and making it the best it could’ve ever been.
A truly rewarding experience, an amazing part of the world and I would encourage anyone to give it ago and make a difference whilst having fun!
