For years IVHQers have been asking us when they’re going to be able to volunteer in New Zealand, and today we’re proud to share that it’s official - you can now join IVHQ in New Zealand!
Applications are now open to sign up for Coast and Waterway Conservation and NGO Support projects in New Zealand’s largest city, Auckland.
As an IVHQer in New Zealand, you’ll be working alongside the award-winning conservation charity, Sustainable Coastlines, supporting one of the following projects…
Coast and Waterway Conservation: Volunteers focus on the restoration of an important part of traditional Māori land, where volunteers engage in a wide range of activities to restore native bush, land and surrounding freshwater ecosystems, while gaining cultural insights and traditional knowledge. Volunteers also aim to address the challenge of litter and its impacts on our marine environment.
Ngo Support: Assist local NGOs with organizing community events, such as beach clean-ups and tree plantings, education campaigns, networking and communication, organizational development and research.

Camden Howitt of Sustainable Coastlines is delighted to be welcoming IVHQ volunteers to New Zealand. “Receiving international volunteers who can muck in and help out with our critical conservation and education programs will allow us to significantly scale up our work, delivering better and wider-reaching impacts to expand both litter abatement and freshwater restoration, working towards our long-term vision for beautiful beaches, healthy waters and inspired people,” shares Camden.
While volunteering in the transport hub of Auckland, you’ll be in an ideal position to access the geographic diversity of New Zealand’s North and South Islands during your weekends. Get your fix of glaciers, rainforests, mountains, coastlines, fjords, waterfalls and rolling hills on one of New Zealand’s Great Walks, hit the beach for a dive, surf, swim or kayak, and channel your inner adrenaline junkie with all the adventure sports you could ask for!
