VOLUNTEER IN FIJI

As an IVHQer in Fiji, you will instantly feel at home as you are immersed in the local community and welcomed by the world-famous Fijian hospitality. Fijians are lively and welcoming and have big, cheerful personalities. They will go out of their way to ensure you’re happy.

Alongside other international volunteers in Fiji, you’ll have the opportunity to participate on one of four community projects in Teaching, Sports Education, Childcare or Construction and Renovation.

In and around your host city of Suva, you can treat yourself with the freshest fruit from the markets and pick up intricate island souvenirs for yourself and your family. Explore the lush rain forest of Colo-I-Suva, an oasis full to the brim with tropical plant life and featuring many walking trails to traverse.

Made up of 333 beautiful islands, Fiji has endless opportunities for exploring on your weekends - snorkel at one of the many crystal blue beaches, like Beqa, just an hour away from Suva, or relax on the local white sand beaches, such as Mamanucas. If you don’t mind cruising on “island time”, can take the initiative and love to be around other like-minded travelers, then we’re sure that you will love your experience in Fiji.

Program Highlights:

  • The program is based in Suva on Fiji’s biggest island, Viti Levu
  • Flexible program durations from 1 week to 12 weeks
  • The program is available year-round and starts every Monday
  • Affordable program fees from US$370 for one week
  • Program fees include airport pick-up, orientation, accommodation, meals and 24/7 in-country volunteer support
  • Weekends are free to relax on the beach, go snorkeling, diving or surfing, explore local markets or venture off mainland Fiji to one of the hundreds of smaller islands. For more activity ideas, read our Fiji travel and tours page.

I had an incredible experience in Fiji. The Fiji staff were always very helpful and I regret only going for four weeks! There were several moments throughout the trip that I loved. The villagers giving us fresh coconuts while we were working in their village. Island hopping with the other volunteers and going to the waterfall with the other volunteers the first week we got there. Thank you for making my trip to Fiji to unforgettable! VOLUNTEER IN NEW ZEALAND

New Zealand’s stunning landscapes, friendly locals and comfortable climate will keep you coming back for more! On the weekends, you will never be bored - Auckland is the perfect home base to explore the rest of what New Zealand has to offer. Being the largest city in the country, it is a hub of transportation options and tour opportunities. It was great learning about the Maori culture and history. I really liked working in nature! I will recommend my younger sister to volunteer here in the future. Everything was great, keep up the good work!” Lingyan Hu, IVHQ volunteer in New Zealand

VOLUNTEER IN AUSTRALIA

As the world’s largest coral reef system, it’s no surprise that the Great Barrier Reef is a world wonder on many travelers’ bucket lists. However the future of this global icon is under increasing pressure due to the cumulative threats of climate change, declining water quality, coastal developments and over-fishing.

As a volunteer in Australia, you’ll play a hands-on role in supporting important conservation efforts focused on the protection of the Great Barrier Reef ecosystem. Your volunteer work can include reef monitoring, marine debris collection and research, and sea turtle rehabilitation. The volunteer work in Australia takes place on two islands, located 45 minutes from the port city of Cairns where the volunteer accommodation is based. From Monday to Friday, you’ll travel by ferry to the islands to complete your volunteer work and during your weekends, you’ll have the opportunity to explore the city of Cairns or greater Queensland.

Cairns is an outdoor-lover’s oasis with beautiful beaches, a tropical rainforest and plenty of adventure activities to keep you busy!

Program Highlights:

  • The program is based in Cairns, in northern Queensland.
  • Flexible program durations from 1 week to 4 weeks
  • The program is available year-round and starts on the first Monday of each month
  • Affordable program fees from US$1010 for one week
  • Program fees include airport pick-up, orientation, accommodation, meals and 24/7 in-country volunteer support
  • Weekends are free to enjoy the easy pace of Cairns. There are many beautiful beach settings a short drive from the city, while the outback is not far inland as well. Further afield, the energetic cities of Sydney, Melbourne, the Gold Coast and Brisbane are always popular with travelers.
