What recent volunteers said about their IVHQ experience
I truly do feel like a better version of myself since coming away from this experience. In terms of self-confidence, I’ve seen myself grow and flourish in more ways than I can imagine. I really enjoyed my placement and immersing myself into the Tanzanian culture. The friends I made at my volunteer house will be friends for life and I am grateful to IVHQ for such a positive experience.
My program manager was very supportive and quick with her responses in regard to any queries that I had prior to starting my trip. The reading information and the steps for preparation and reminders were very much appreciated when planning for the trip. I really appreciate the safety that was provided when volunteering through IVHQ and with the local team. It allowed us to explore and fully immerse ourselves into the life in Arusha because we felt comfortable to do so.
The mamas in the house ensured that we were always well fed and the accommodation was always clean. I also appreciated that the mamas let us use the kitchen when we wanted to make dessert together after dinner. Any time there was a power cut or water cut it was resolved quickly. The food was really tasty and the mamas always accommodated our requests.
Volunteering in Arusha changed my life in a very unexpected way as the local people, local team and the people in my volunteer house all opened their hearts so warmly to me. The connections that I made with the other volunteers will last even after this experience. The children and families that I met in my volunteer placement taught me so much about joy and perseverance. The pole pole (slow-slow) life is something that everyone should experience.
I have gained so much knowledge not only about the culture in Arusha, but from the people I have met. I've gained so much confidence in myself as a traveller and I could not recommend this program and organization enough for all future volunteers. Do not hesitate, you will not regret it!! Just show up every day to help and immerse yourself in the way they life. Some parts may be a culture shock, but it is their reality. They are all so strong and the kids are amazing.
I feel like I gained a different perspective on life. For example, the problems we experience back home are so different than the problems people in Tanzania experience. It was nice learning from and living in another culture. Also, for me it was very much out of my comfort zone, so I learned a lot about myself and what I can do. Meeting people from all over the world is also very nice.
This experience was an amazing way to see a new part of the world. The volunteering is a great way to get outside of your comfort zone and meet so many new people. I felt so supported by the local program while I was there. I would definitely go back!
